Ah Leatherman… one of the truly great tools that a designer can have.  Need something cut?  Leatherman.  Need a screw loosened?  Leatherman.  Need a Top Ten list?  Letterman (not Leatherman, but close).  The Leatherman Skeletool is the latest piece of tech from the great folks at Leatherman Tools.  Featuring a ton of tools to utilize made out of stainless steel, the Skeletool (and upgrade Skeletool CX) is a great gift for you or any designer on your list.

Today’s mildly frightening gift idea is an electronic coin back that “eats” your quarters.  Yes, it may appear as though it is some by-product from a Peewee’s Playhouse design session, but the Facebank coin back is actually a nice novelty gift idea.

Buy it now for just $30.

We all love Do-It-Yourself stuff, so we thought we would add an idea for a gift in that realm.  The DIY Music Box is just what is sounds like: a music box you get to put together with whatever tune you would like.  Great for someone who wants to mimic their favorite ringtones in the old-fashioned way.

So today I thought I would catch us up on this whole Holiday Shopping Guide thing, considering that we are clock-deprived and a few days behind.  And what a great way to do it than by recommending a wristwatch! (See, we ARE witty!)

The Nike AMP + sports watch is a watch and a remote for the Apple/Nike sports combo, the Nike+ “experience”.   Featuring voice feedback, stats, and more, this watch will help any couch potato-esque designer get up and about… Or so we can wish.  The watch is pretty snazzy in aesthetic, and fits snuggly around your wrist.

Yup, just seven days (or so) until Christmas, or as we like to call it: “the day that everyone’s mediocre gifts find their home.”  Today’s gift idea is actually a worthwhile one for the designer and non-designer alike.

The Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter is a nifty little… decanter.  (Glass pitcher to the rest of us).  The main concept behind it is the ability to remove the air, creating a “vacuum” which keeps your liquids clean, crisp, and fresh.

Prefect for wine, juice, or formaldehyde.  Buy it here.

Look for that new-age Green stocking stuffer?  Well, have we got a deal for YOU!  The Planetarium Single Vial Garden lab is a great little $10 gift.  It allows the agriculturalist in all of us to grow an herb in a vial.

This is actually a pretty sweet little gift for that corporate Admin that you love.  Spice up her (or his… let’s get into the new Millennium, now!) desk and get their green thumb going!  Set it next to your computer screen for some completely crazy radioactive results.   Ok, we kid.  Sorta.

book of light

What’s that, you say?  Mr (or Mrs) Designer doesn’t read books? Surely, you jest!

Have no fear, linguistically challenged!  For this book here is actually a POP-UP book!  Why is that special?  Well, would you enjoy it further if the object that popped-up was a lamp that actually gave off light?

This giant 16″ linen-bound book is  sure to get some glances sitting on your coffee table (or drawing table).  Coming in either red or gray, and popping up to reveal a lamp or a streetlight, this could be the one book you own that isn’t propping anything up in your apartment!

From Charles And Marie, priced at $95.

T-10!

If you are anything like us, the “wacky” college years were full of clutter and mess, and cleaning up consisted of throwing as much as we can under a futon and letting the sleeping blanket drape to the ground.  Hanging coats and bags was also an adventure… your closet would tend to look like the coat check of some swanky new club whose name is simply the first half of a verb.

Well, have no fear!  Design Within Reach is here!  Well, they’ve BEEN here, but now they can help offer up a solution… and a pretty stylish one as well.   The HookBox from DWR has a nice bin in the top and a hook (gasp!) in the bottom, helping keep your nice Adidas zip-up off of the spray-mount infested floor.  Comes in red and black. On sale now for a mere $98.
