Congratulations to Paul Denton for winning the Batmobile Design Competition! Paul's rendering, seen above, captures that "bad ass" feel of the Dark Knight: it's moody, menacing, and full of drama. ...

The annual party/event for Designers during NAIAS is back! Full details are in the flyer. CDF will be there, enjoying a few drinks. Will you?

The event of the year is fast approaching after its absence during last years NAIAS. This is a great forum for anyone interested in automotive and product design. The theme this year is “Renaissance of Design” and has an eclectic mix of speakers presenting. New for this year is the location. Instead of the crumbling COBO it will be in the same building Harley Earl layed his pencil to paper (yes, designers used actual wood pencils back then) and the new location for future car designers attended College for Creative Studies. Be sure to check it out and after you attend the show stick around for something special CDf will be hosting (details coming soon).

8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
For 16 years AutoWeek has celebrated the world of design with its annual AutoWeek Design Forum. This year the event, held in conjunction with the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), moves to the newly renovated College for Creative Studies A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education in Detroit.
Attracting automotive and design enthusiasts from varied backgrounds – students, car industry professionals, and designers allied to the field – the event recognizes and celebrates design as the ultimate differentiating factor that drives consumers’ interest and purchase decisions.
The Design Forum’s new venue offers attendees a first-hand look at an architectural gem in the brand new A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education. Through a $145 million redevelopment project, the College transformed General Motors’ historic Argonaut Building, located in Detroit’s New Center district, into the Taubman Center.
This year’s Design Forum, themed “Renaissance of Design,” will feature presentations from design professionals in the automotive and non-automotive worlds, followed by afternoon tours of the North American International Auto Show. In addition, the AutoWeek editors will recognize the most notable vehicles of the 2010 show during a presentation of the AutoWeek Editors’ Choice Awards.
More details after the break….
This past weekend was the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. We thought we would share a few notable pics from the day. The cruise is quite a spectacle with somewhere around a million people coming out to see every version of a muscle car, exotic, antique and the unexplainable. If you are a car lover this is definitely an event you have to see. Just don’t bring your import tuner.
You saw Dali’s pics and now here are a few from my camera. Classic Design Concepts showed some great cars proving the outstanding work they do. Would you think the Mustang below is brand new? CDC sells a brand new reproduction body for the ’67 Stang. All the look and style without the lurking rust. This car is incredible and can be built to suit your taste.

Earlier this week we had the chance to visit Classic Design Concepts for their annual open house event. They allowed us to venture through their epic hallways, peering at sweet vehicle designs, concepts, and an assortment of rims and aftermarket parts that left my wallet longing to be opened.
While we can’t show you everything (some of the concepts were under heavy lockdown… aka “no photos”) we can show you some of the general fun thatw as had, as CDC had some incredible cars on display.
Hit the jump below to see the full gallery, and special thanks to Matt Korich at CDC for arranging!
Monday and Tuesday brought plenty of GM-related events, the majority of which were documented via social media. The trips to the Design Center were especially sweet for many, as future vehicles and design direction were viewed.
Twitter played a huge part in the event, allowing the event-goers to let their friends (and the world, really) know about the upcoming cars. Explaining a car design is rarely a simple task, especially when talking about details and form. However, the use of Twitter forced the attendees to focus in on key words and viewpoints in describing the designs… 140 characters or less, baby! As such, I’ve gathered some of those tweets for your reading pleasure. Follow the jump to read ‘em!

Yesterday I was able to attend GM’s Product and Technology Event where they put on a show to present their future capabilities. The people invited were all random going through 30 different channels to reach bloggers of varying types. The morning started off with Mr. Lutz making some great comments. My favorite being his reference to their old interiors looking like “hardened lava.” I couldn’t explain it any better. We then got a tour of the four new Brand “Salons.” Unfortuneatley ther were no cameras allowed, so I will do my best to describe them. Hit the jump and look into the next 24 months of GM’s lineup.
