We grew up on cartoons in the 1980s, and know that many of you did as well. That’s why we’re going back to some of our favorites in a weekly(ish) look at some of the best — and worst — of the era related to cars and vehicles.

This week: Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines

Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines began life as a series of 6-minute mini episodes during the Super Sunday/Super Saturday cartoon block in 1985. It featured official vehicles from the United States Hot Rod Association and their fictitious drivers as they battle the evil Mr Big as he hunts for the fountain of youth.

If that sounds bonkers, it becomes more so when you watch a bunch of monster trucks plow through the fountain to destroy it. The Eighties were amazing.

The entire series was collected and turned into an hour long movie, which doesn’t actually help the narrative flow whatsoever. Toei Animation was behind the creation, and Hasbro and Marvel were the production companies behind it.
