Hand-on Impressions: Split/Second

There is something to be said for the video game industry, in which innovation and experience drive the design of the on-screen action.  Racing games cross over into our world a bit. Incredible visuals, creative vehicle design, and speed.  What else would you want?

We love racing games here at CDF, and we take every opportunity to host some fantastic nights of Forza 3 tournaments (add me: kewlrats) and talk trash while we do laps around the ‘Ring.  Recently, I had the opportunity to demo the soon-to-be-released Split/Second, Disney’s latest racing game from Black Rock Studios.  Black Rock was the company behind Pure, one of the best off-road rally four-wheeler games of all time.  S/S plays much like its predecessor, albeit on a road and with explosions.  The visuals were YUMMY, but the gameplay mechanic was what made me think that this may be the most fun racing game to release in 2010.  Yes, even more fun than Gran Turismo 5 — if that ever comes out.

Read up on my review on our sister site, SideQuesting, complete with an eye-popping trailer.  Split/Second releases on May 18th in the US for XBox 360, PC, and PS3.
