Wow! Someone *really* doesn't like the new XJ!

I have to admit that I wasn't to crazy about this theme at first. But after a while, it has started to grow on me. I agree that the blacked out C-pillar is a curious choice, but overall, I'm starting to see where they want to take the Jaguar brand. High tech, but still classic. Bold, but still sensuous. It's a tough line to walk, but I think they're on the right track. I really like the inside; it could easily be mistaken for a Bentley interior. Nice details combined with big expanses of wood. Great colors too.

I remember when Bangle introduced his flame surfacing, and everyone recoiled. It took some time, but they worked it out, and now the brand is stronger than ever. This episode informs me to be patient with Jag's new direction. Let it develop, see where it goes...

as seen in my URL link http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3833771
Jaguar Design Team SHOULD HAVE:
Used a decent wheel instead of the cheap looking wheels that come with the new XJ,
Use the design from the 98 XJR or the Jaguar 220!!!

The should have kept the VERTICAL vent- like Rover- why would you make a cheap looking vent like a Buick or GM product????

They SHOULD have kept the fog lamps!!

They SHOULD have made the grill wider and taller, giving the mouth an aggressive look.

They SHOULD have given the angled headlight to the XF, The XF is a new model with no linage or history...give the "edgey" look to the lil XF. The XJ has history, how dare you abandon it!!!!!! MURDERERS!!!!!!

They SHOULD have never put that STUPID blacked out rear pillar idea...(was IAN drunk that day??????!!!!!

The SHOULD have made the car WITH ONE SINGLE WIPER BLADE!!!! Why would you not????

They SHOULD have continued the FRONT opening hood like the 98-02 XJ, the quirks and oddities is what made the car SPECIAL YOU MORONS!!!!!

The SHOULD have NEVER REMOVED THE LEAPER!!!! I agree- It looks silly with the new single headlamps, but the XJ lights should ALWAYS be a 4 lamp system...HISTORY AND LINEAGE PEOPLE!!!!! GEEEEEZZZZ....
I am so ANGRY that Jaguar dropped the ball and RUINED the XJ!!!!!!!!
ARRRGGGHHJHHJJ!!!!!!!!!!!

[...] Here are a few pics from the Jaguar XJ interview. I must admit that I wish I had better lighting to capture and read the shape of the vehicle. Callum had mentioned the best color for this car was white. I would think silver would have done it justice as well. Check out the full cardesignfetish’s review of the XJ. http://www.cardesignfetish.com/2009/11/10/cdf-podcast-17-ian-callum-and-the-xj.
Fascinating piece, I've really enjoyed reading and listening!

A couple of points though -

1) If the designers spent over 90% of their attention on the rear, why are there all the photos in this post of the front?

2) I disagree with the notion that they should have spent more time with the front; personally, I think that they successfully redefined the DRG of Jaguar on last year's XF, and I have no problem with them applying this essence to their new XJ. Every other brand seems to do just this, and it builds a very recognizable brand character.
With regard to the rear, it would be much more difficult to transplant the XF's rear facia on the new XJ as they are two COMPLETELY different proportions and therefore the XJ deserves a unique rear persona. Whereas the XF seems to be very tight and athletic, the XJ needs to be much more of a statement, more coach-like, and that means a long, substantial rear.
Personally, I think that from a side view and rear 3/4 the car is extremely successful, the proportion is instantly recognizable, elegant... it's absolutely gorgeous. Where it starts to fall apart for me is from a dead-rear view. The graphics seem too chunky and slightly overwhelming, however perhaps I'll feel differently when I see one in person. Honestly, I applaud them for taking risks with this car!

Overall, great post! Reminds me why I'm constantly checking this blog! I can't wait to see this car in person!
