Ford’s Computer Hot Rod

Category : Big 3, Design, Interviews

Here is an interesting interview of J Mays by Re*Move.  J talks about the future of car design and the process of which it will be done.  It is an encouraging perspective and one that you can’t argue with since Ford is the only domestic OEM not being paid by the tax payers.

Re*Move – Joseph Simpson and Mark Charmer talk to J Mays – Ford’s Global Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer – about the Lincoln C Concept Car, design thinking at Ford and the future of car design in general.

Thanks for the link @JoeSimpson

2010 Buick LaCrosse Part 1-Exterior

CDf was recently able to spend some (impromptu, hence the low quality pics) time with a new pre-production Buick LaCrosse.  Since the car should be out in the next month this “pre-production” model was about 98% there.  All we can say is WOW!  What a first impression.  The “new” LaCrosse has a great presence on the road with a high quality and sophisticated exterior design.

A few months ago my buddy Logar showed me his new Hot Rod Sketch book he received as a gift.  After  a few minutes of flipping through the pages I new I had to get a copy.  Here at the Fetish we are huge fans of automotive art and sketching, hence last years Rendered Hope Charity Calendar we put together.

Since I first viewed the book Twitter has really taken off for CDf and Dwayne Vance began following us.  Little did I realize this was the author of The Hot Rod Art Book I grew a fetish for.  Now CDf  has a copy of this awesome sketch book of Hot Rod Art.

The book consist of artwork from Dwayne Vance as well as tutorials included on a cd.  Dwayne has had a great career in design working for Troy Lee Designs, Hot Wheels and his own company Future Elements.  There are also 12 other top notch Hot Rod Artist and Designers including Larry Wood, Thom Taylor and Max Grundy to name a few.  There is a great variety of work and styles combined into one hell of a coffee table book.

Lambo Toro A-GoGo!

Category : Student Work

head_lambotoro

Leave it to us automotive designers to rediscover the heritage of automakers through fun school/freelance projects!  Jason Battersby, an industrial designer out of Canada, has dived (diven?) into the history of Lamborghini to uncover its sordid FARM-EQUIPMENT (GASP!) past!  Battersby brought that full-circle in his concept for a modern Lambo tractor, named the Toro.  Including all of the naughty bits of the Lambo aesthetic, the vehicle certainly appears as if it will be the fastest tractor on the lot.  Of note, take a gander at the sweet theme exploration sketches leading up to the actual 3-D surface (and paper model).

Images below and after the break.

Opel Insignia Still Coming to U.S.?

Category : Design, Fetishing, Production Car

On this mornings commute here in Detroit I passed a badge covered Opel Insignia.  This vehicle was rumored to come over as the next Saturn Aura.  But we all know what’s up with Saturn for the future.  Could they still be getting a new vehicle or will it come over as a Buick like the one from China?  Hmmmm what is the General up to?

With Opel being up for grabs this could even become a Chrysler with the Fiat interest.  Think about that.

Hit the jump for some other images of the Insignia….
