2009 Autoshow Hits: Audi Sportback Concept

With the 2009 Detroit Autoshow well underway,  Audi has added to their repertuar of hotness with the Sportback concept.  Damn!  Can these guys ever screw up?  Audi has got to be the champ in surfacing clean looking sheet metal that somehow reveal only the beauty of it’s sculpted shape.  The surfacing looks deceivingly simple.

Audi makes some slight tweeks to it’s prominant front grill by adding a couple of rounded corners.  Surface transitions are clean, precise, and purposeful with a consistant flow around the body.  Like the A5 , Audi maintains that intimidating look with their headlamp shape accented with the LED lights along the lowe perimeter.

Detailing along the bottom of the fog lamp area is done well adding a nice graphical element to it.

Side profile shows the car to look slightly on the heavier side due to the small greenhouse  but the large wheels help to balance it out giving it a strong stance.

Top notch rear detailing….typical of Audi.  Sharp, clean lines with a graphical look…especially in the tail lights.  The glass top is a nice feature but this has been done before.  Nothing really unique about it.   Another winner from Audi!!!

Yawn. Vanilla. Yogurt. Absolutely not as hot as the sketch. Still a very nicely detailed and proportioned car.

Absolutely yummy! I’ve always loved the Audi surfacing, but here the tension to the metal exceeds everything I’ve seen before : ) Amazing how such a clean and graphic-dominated design suggests great power and carnivorous nature ; ) Once again – Audi has a hand for proportions. A BEAUTY!
