Geneva 2008 Trend Report (Part 2)
And so begins the second part of our look back at Geneva. This time, the focus is on…
Part 2: Interior Trends
Main Observations
- Furniture influence is the norm now, especially in seating
- Designers love lighting and the concepts reflect this, with LED lighting taking the place of standard LCD displays and controls
- Vehicle is laid out around the driver, into a cockpit-style asymmetric design
- Leather is the material du jour, as studios look to utilize new manufacturing methods to modify its look and feel
Renault Megane

- Seat structure is molded into vehicle to create a “floating” appearance
- Asymmetric seats incorporate several materials in non-standard break-ups
Saab 9-X BioHybrid Concept

- Driver-focused layout emphasizes “cockpit”
- Front row seats are white, rear are black = great differentiator
- Blue lighting in the display, devoid of LCD, allows the rest of the interior to be cleaner and simplified
Hyundai i-Mode

- Rotating seats on tracks/rails
- Leather wraps over and around visible structure
- Deep blue lighting
Kia Soul Searcher

- Not leather, but still svelte
Seat Bocanegra

- Quilted with accent trim is a well-done approach to modifying leather, much better than in the…
Kia Soul Diva

- Absolutely hideous
Italdesign-Giugiaro Quaranta

- Too… Much… Leather!
The third (and final) part of our Geneva recap will focus on our favorites from the show. Come back tomorrow for the run-down!
