Dodge Challenger SRT8

challenger1

If you are like us the whole anticipation of these muscle cars is getting old. We have seen them for years with no changes and they still are not on the road. I would say that it is already time for a redesign but this one hasn’t changed since the ’70′s. On another note, I was able to spend a few minutes with a salt covered Dodge Challenger SRT8 and check it out a little more closely.

Here is what I found…

Overall the car looks pretty good. It has a large volume appearance with a good stance that makes it look in charge of the road. The body stayed basically the same since the “concept” was unveiled. Some of the details though took a hit from the bean counters.
The headlights have been watered down and are now pretty bland as well as the straight board of plastic surrounding them. I guess they figured if all that is tucked away in the shadows then no one will notice. The hood has some interesting surface changes that really try and point out…I have a Hemi. A little retro style in the gas cap hints back to the ‘ol days, too bad it looks like cheap chromed plastic. I do like the rear taillight design. Nice surface detail and a wide graphic really exaggerates the width of this car.
Now the interior.
What can I say, it came from Chrysler. There are spots of soft plastic and the seats are the usually SRT grade hotness, but the rest looks like it may have been the original interior from the ’70′s. And not in a good retro kind of way. The blinding silver painted cluster surround with white gauges is a little much, and don’t let the sun hit it. Oh, my eyes! For the muscle and power of this car it should have a kick ass meaty steering wheel, not one fresh off a 300C.
Overall the car looks pretty good and I heard from others that it has some serious power and drives great. Rumor is that the base model will start around 22g’s making it atainablefor every baby boomer. Great job Pacifica Design Studio designers. I can’t wait for the next design to come out of your studiooo……oh, yeah, right.
