Big 3, Part 1

After many comments to a question we raised earlier, here are the results. Are you reading OEM’s?

Here is what needs to go……

1- Side vents.

focus

If it isn’t functional, don’t stick it on. Make the form interesting enough so that there is no need for add-ons.

2- The T IP (instrument panel)

mustangip

Move away from the typical horizontal band holding the instruments and the vertical center stack holding it up. Create more of a flowing interior that wraps around the occupants without looking like it came from the late ’80’s/ early ’90’s. To take it further make everything integrate better. Seats to doors to IP to floor. It should all relate to each other and flow together in some way.

3- Fake materials

fakewood

Shiny, swirly wood and silver painted accents might fool most consumers, but we know you are just being cheap. Cars are too expensive to wear off paint in your interior from daily use. If you can’t use the real thing there are many thin films out there that have a great tactile feel and look great.

We couldn’t stop there, so here are 2 other items that we are really getting tired of.

1- The Audi grill

audigrill

It looks good on Audi, but that doesn’t mean that every auto maker needs to have some kind of spin on it.

2- The BMW crease

bmw

I know BMW didn’t start this but they certainly fueled the trend. You know, that character line that runs from the front fender to the back, usually with a bit of an undercut to it. To top it off many companies start the line with a fender vent now.
So we couldn’t stop at three, oh well. Thank you fetishers for all your comments. Now we know we aren’t the only ones thinking this way.
