GMC Denali XT Concept

Yet again, here is another Ridgeline fighter. This time it is GMC’s turn to take a stab at it. Dodge, Mitsubishi and recently Toyota took a turn and have done nothing with it, could GM actually follow through? They did with the Camaro.

The funny thing is that the Ridgeline doesn’t sell that well. Of course it could be the styling that is stunting its growth. Is there a market to go after? Must be since companies keep trying to copy it. Question is, who will be the “second” to build their concept and show Honda how it should have been done.

This GMC is a looker and the combination of flex fuel/hybrid drive train says it can improve fuel by 50%. That’s nice, but how about the design?

The wide flared fenders give this truck car, ute thingy a nice stance and the 23’s do a lot for it. The only problem with the fender surfacing is that this could easily be a Mazda. Some of the lines seem a bit choppy on the body side and the “C” graphic repeating in the details doesn’t make any sense.

The tailgate cut out is a nice change from usual square and helps to blend the sides into the rear. I am not sure if the area under the tailgate is a step or some sort of graphic, but it really disrupts the clean surfacing wrapping around the corners. The exhaust coming out the side/corners is fresh.

Nice sketches, although they look more like they came from DUB with the rims going up into the fender wells.

The proportions are kind of hard to read in these images. I can’t tell if looks more like a beefy car or a two wheel drive pickup. I have a feeling that the front will be low (built on a car package) and the rear will be high to visually make the vehicle look bigger. Which probably won’t look the greatest. Only time will tell.

The interior looks okay, too bad they didn’t release any pics of it. The bed consist of Ridgline storage with the addition of a mid gate taken from the Avalanche.

Chicago is shaping up to be a decent show this year. I will be looking forward to hear more about this vehicle.

Pretty aggressive concept. I would agree that the proportions are a little odd, especially above the beltline in the greenhouse area. I see quite a few sport coupes sketched this way so maybe they are just trying to make a sporty, trucky, sedan like thingy (whoa??)
However I rather enjoy the surfacing. I liked the “C” shaped theme for the vehicle. It is consistent throughout the vehicle from the crisp chamfered front hood, aggressive shoulders at the wheel wells, and the tail gate area.

The prototype (rear view) above has a funny break up to the surface when transitioning from the top of the door to the roof. From a design perspective, the interior did not do much for me either. I am sure by now they have done some refinement. Beautiful sketches though. Overall, it is a very fresh look for a truck and a welcome progression from the Ridgeline.
