First and foremost, the appearance is decidedly less of the typical “glossy black” that you see of an Apple-compatible product. There is still a touch of mirrored beauty, but this resides in the chrome utilized in the dock and rear cover. The dock is designed to allow for a hand to hold the iPod naturally, as if you were to typically grab your iPod and utilize the click wheel in all its glory. However, the metal dock does seem to hang out there quite a bit, and definitely appears as if something is missing when no iPod is placed in it.
It’s almost a shame that the rear side of the Zeppelin looks so pretty: you’ll more than likely have it up against a wall in your stereo cabinet, hiding the elegant chrome face that hearkens us back to the days of Johnny 5. Plenty of inputs on this baby blimp, as well as an S-Video output to TV to watch the several episodes of Full House you have on your iPod, allow for all kinds of connective, upgrade-y goodness.
It’s no wonder the Zep won a CES Best of Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award.
