Any Better Now?
Motive Magazine has just released a ton photos of the new STI. Exterior, interior, technology, and design pics fill the gallery. I love seeing the sketches because they always show a little more of the designers intent. I pulled my favorites from the gallery and I’ll point out some details I couldn’t bring myself to realize when I first saw the car. Check out below for more sketches and some more positive points about the design.
The soldier view, a place where almost every design is born. Looks kind of like a cross between the new GT-R and a Focus. The roof profile loses some of the bulk that the production version gained and is more controlled. Quite a big front overhang for a rally car.
This front view looks pretty sweet except for the front graphics feeling squished between the wide body kit.
The rear view has a nice low, wide stance and looks fun to drive.
This is a really nice rendering. Notice the horizontal grill bar that extend from the hood lines. It stands out nicely with the headlight/grill opening fused together in darkness. Nice touch, I wish it would have made it. Can we say aftermarket? Hint, hint.
Again, nice rendering, but the side glass DLO gets to big (damn packaging) and makes the car look heavy.
Nice view here of the rear diffuser and wing. They add an aggressive sporting character. The area where the rear hatch glass the the side glass almost meet feels a little tight. Move those apart and strengthen up the D pillar.
Overall, I like the car better after seeing the design images. Designs almost always look better in sketches. The production process has a way of neutering even the wildest stallion.

I like it, and always thought the STI should be a hatch. Finally something more then a box, the WRX is growing up a little bit, by going young.
