Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1

What happens when you mate Porsche Design Studio with their brethren Porsche Automotive Group? You get the Porsche Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 (whew!). Normally incest is frowned upon, but not in this case. The meeting of design minds has given birth to an utterly sexy vehicle.

The Cayman S, already a beautiful car, is made even better with the touches added to it by Porsche Design. The graphic break-up is elegantly done and accents the body from front to back, creating a silhouette of black on black.

Yep, they just brought “sexy black” (sorry, bad joke).

Over the last few years Porsche has seen some heavy competition from arch-rivals Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, as well as an increase in design awareness from the US automakers. This has put Porsche in a tight spot: come up with a hot car or face losing your iconic super car lead.

The Design Edition 1 is the logical step in the right direction. What makes this car even more desirable than its smashing good looks and curvaceous figure? The fact that it is limited to 777 (lucky 7, get it?) vehicles produced, each with a plaque detailing which one of the babies it is.

The interior is also striking, outfitted in enough black to keep things passionate for those long drives down I-75. The only material breaking up the void of light is the aluminum accents used sparingly… enough to focus your attention to key elements (such as the aforementioned plaque, or the IP). In fact, the interior theme revolves heavily around the silhouette of shapes and sinuous forms noted best by Porsche’s promotional work (see top intro image).

The Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 is due in 2008 for an undisclosed price.

I’ll be waiting at the dealership to catch a glance, anticipating for the leather burlesque show to begin.
