New Ford Falcon Takes Flight

Falcon F6

…in Australia, that is.

Thanks to the Herald Sun, we’ve got a leak on what the latest FPV Ford Falcon will look like. Where did the leak come from? The garbage, of course! Discovered in the trash was a nice image of the Falcon. And now, everything is up for grabs on showing the visuals.

As an “Amurikan” I’m not as familiar with our OZ designs and vehicles as I should be, but I’ll give it a shot anyways.
Design crit time? You got it!

EXTERIOR
To say that this vehicle is all new would be overstating the case. In fact, it appears to be not much more than a facelift.
And, not a great one at that. The front end appears graphically busy. All that was needed was more emphasis on the grille and you could have had a nice, venomous road beast. But, Ford designers took on the Falcon with a decidedly Audi-esque graphic break up. Read: black plastic. Although not bad, it’s also not anything new anymore. The creased undercut swoop along the side has a definite Mistubishi influence. The edginess is characteristic of Ford, albeit finally toning it down from those crazy days of the early 2000s. The rear of the vehicle, on the other hand, is interesting (in a good way). Clean graphic breaks that are not over done aren’t going to win you any awards on the ingenuity, but it won’t lose you any battles on looks either.

Nice and clean.

What I do love about this vehicle is the proportion. It reminds me of my 1991 Lumina Z34 days: slightly slammed, wide where it counts, and able to take on the road.

What more do you want from a car, really?

INTERIOR
We didn’t get any interior shots of the vehicle as of the time of the post.

OVERALL IMPRESSION
If I were to grade the design of this car, it would be a solid B. Not too outstanding in any category, but not bad either. There is enough going right to make this car appeal to the average Joe as a step up from that old suped-up Holden he has rusting in his garage.

The top image is the F6.
Below are the GT and GTP, respectively.
