CCS Student Show 2007

Another year in the tank, another College for Creative Studies Student Show comes to pass. Evaluating an entire show spread across different disciplines on a growing campus can be exhausting… but it can also be quite rewarding.
Have a look in the Gallery.
While we will focus on more of the notable design efforts from the students, the show itself was very exciting and a joy to see the varied work from a plethora of talented artists.
No commentsThe EleeNo WebTime: The Thinking Geek’s Watch

When it comes to Fetishing, nothing beats cars and watches. And with that said, nothing beats the quirky, sexy watches from Tokyo Flash.
The latest creation from EleeNo is the WebTime Elite, a retro contemporary (retrotemporary?) watch that mixes high technology with modern fashion cues and geek chic.
No commentsWhere’s My Flying Car?
We’ve all asked that sacred question. Where was the flying car I was promised for the year 2K? Where was the hover chair? Wasn’t I supposed to have TV beamed into my head?
In his book, “Where’s My Jetpack?: A Guide to the Amazing Science Fiction Future that Never Arrived”, author Daniel H. Wilson explores all of the technolust marvels we were promised decades past. Spice it up with a little tongue-in-cheek and retro-sexy illustrations from Richard Horne, and you have the makings of a great summer read.
No commentsTransforming my BMW M Coupe
So, I have had my car for over a month now, and I have upgraded small things like sound system, ICE, did the iPod link, and a few other little details on the car. This car is beautiful don’t get me wrong I love the M Shoe, but there are some details that BMW got wrong, so I have decided to fix them. I have decided to remove some of the uglier exterior detailing to truly let the voluptuous body show a little better, you know remove some of the visual clutter. So here it goes.
1. Stock M Coupe rear end, as you can see a little cluttered
5 commentsNever too early for SEMA
Jeep has already unveiled 2 JK’s for this years SEMA show.
The JT (Jeep Truck) is not quite as nicely done as the Gladiator concept from a couple years ago but remains very true to what it is….A Wrangler Unlimited with only 2 doors. This is also similar to the supplier AEV’s Jeep Brute pickup truck conversion. I pass one of these every morning and it is one sweet little pickup.
The other Jeep is called Wrangler Ultimate sporting Liquid Charcoal Pearl paint (which you would never want to take off-road), 18 inch rims with 35 inch tires and a 3 inch lift. Exterior chrome trim finishes it off. I realize chrome works well at a show but Jeep enthusiasts don’t want to see chrome, leave that to GM and Hummer. Last year at SEMA I saw a ‘67 Mustang trimmed out with a brushed nickel finish, now that was fresh and looked great. Slap that on a Jeep with some Gun Metal finished rims and you have a winner in my book.
For me the best part of this concept is how they finished off the interior. My only complaint with the new JK is the bland interior. All they did with this Jeep is paint a few parts and add a splash of color and it looks ten times better. A few small details go a long way. They look like easy customizations for the do-it-your-selfer.
Glad to see them, I have drooling over the new JK Unlimited since it came out and am waiting to get a hold of my own. If you have the same feelings as I do, go to SEMA this year. They were everywhere last year.
No commentsBMW Goes Cab Forward?
WTF! The artist that did these “interpretations” better have just fallen off the bar stool before he did these renderings. I sure hope BMW doesn’t take this route. A crossover is a sure thing these days and that’s fine, but not one that looks like this. For BMW to go cab forward would ruin all of there history in having a great proportioned dash to axle.
I have faith in them though just like they stole my heart with the Z4 coupe I am sure they can do it again with this vehicle. It won’t be out until 2010 at the earliest and will take the name F3…whatever. Maybe by then car design will take a dramatic shift following the Honda Civic and these interpretations will look great. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Thanks to Autoweek for the pics.

XR is another way of saying Kia is stealing your hotness.
OK, I have to give it to the Mercedes/Jaguar/BMW/ETC. bastardizing company. I guess if you steel enough designs and copy enough peoples product lines you learn a thing or two. Now I feel no remorse in making fun of Hyundai/Kia for their past and current stolen designs, because lets face it, it is complete bullshit. Their latest copy is not of a particular design, but of a philosophy.
Kia is planning to release a range of performance saloons and hatchbacks over the next three years all under the “XR” badge.

a Fiat Cinquecento by any other name is just a 500….
Ah, Padua Franciscan High school, in good Ol’ Parma Ohio US of A, the year was 1996, and Mr. Baziki was teaching Italian language class, and every time the #500 came up, he would tell us another story about his beloved Fiat Cinquecento (that is Fiat 500 for all yall English speaking folks) back in Italy. Most people who were not into cars would have most likely forgotten about these stories by now, but they still live in my mind. I imagined a little younger Baziki zipping through the streets of some small Italian fishing village, with his equally small Fiat. He stops beeps the horn, and a lovely Italian beauty bops down the stairs of her turn of the century home. The two of them cruise out to the countryside for a nice drive in the Italian summer…… It was a good 40 years after he drove his last Cinquecento and the fact that he was still thinking about his little Fiat really said something special about this car. Fast forward to today, and imagine all the history that this little Italian “people’s car” has. So it is no surprise that it has been on the hearts and minds of people since the unveiling of the concept, and so it goes……….
If Fiat had any concerns about its neo-retro 500 being anything other than a smash hit upon launch, the consumer response to its initial offering should alleviate them. The first 500 cars overall, aptly-named the Opening Edition, were made available on the web between April 18 and April 23.
