The Best Shaggin’ Wagon…..

April 18th, 2007 | Category: Fetishing

shaggin

A fellow fetisher and I started talking about our shaggin’ wagons from the past and I always thought of them as conversion vans (gotta have the mirrors on the ceiling), suv’s, and station wagons. He surprised me when he said his was a Z34 Lumina, yunno the “hot one.” I guess when you are in high school and college it is whatever you have to drive. I had a Jeep Cherokee minus the tinted windows which was a problem until the windows fogged up. The cops think it is just dew on the windows late at night. Those fools.

Anyway we are curious what you guys had as your shaggin’ wagons. Drop us a line in the comments below. If it beats the pic above, send us a proud pic of your own and we’ll post it to show the world.

April 17th, 2007 | Category: Fetishing, Student Work

Following up on a post from about 1 month ago. Krysti Scheider a current graduating student at the CIA, has sent us some amazing work from one of her latest projects. We received a few comments about her work in the past few weeks, and we only feel it is fair to give here a little more exposure. Anyone interested in contacting her about a job please feel free to email us at cardesignfetish@gmail.com
I must make it very clear, anyone who is even thinking about stealing her work will be prosecuted. All rights reserved by the designer. Now for all those students out there wondering what you have to do to get a job……… this is a great example.

The Benchmark has been RAISED

April 17th, 2007 | Category: Fetishing

VW has redone their website and it is pretty sweet. There is a great easy to use interface with cool features. The VW Hype area has some great marketing tools in it. My favorite one is the GTI FAST Tuning section. It shows a variety of custom FASTS that tuner shops did up.

fasts

Now that VW has their marketing back on track I hope Design is next. They need to get back to the success of the last generation V-Dubs.

Lets hope that other OEM’s will step up their game in the digital world.

Check it out.

Does this car make me look gay?

Gay by Design, or a Lifestyle Choice?

If you’re a dude and you drive a Miata, you must be gay, right? If you’re a woman and you drive an Outback, you must be a raging lesbian, correct? Not so fast–here we have the New York Times reporting on one of those subjects you’ve snickered about with your bff and thought of in your head, but wait a minute…are these rides “Gay by Design, or a Lifestyle Choice?”

Indeed, the extravagant displays of muscle car machismo and sensuous, high-design femininity on display this week at the New York International Auto Show at the Javits Center would seem to cry out for deconstruction along gender- and sexual-identity lines.

But to some people, such stereotyping is homophobia, pure and simple. A poll seeking to determine the most gay automobiles, conducted by a South African Web site, was a topic of heated interest last December on Gizmodo, the New York-based technology blog, where one reader wrote: “Since when are cars gay or straight? We’re really polling people’s prejudices here.”

Others, though, including gay theorists, say many gay motorists happily embrace certain cars as reflections of identity.

Beat Cut-Away

April 13th, 2007 | Category: Concept Car

beat

I found this on the voter site for the minicars. GM has a bunch of downloads and info about the minicars they showed in New York. I pulled this image just because it is a cool rendering of an interior in its environment. Design wise the IP is really fresh, yet the rest of the interior is very bland. I hope it makes production although the Groove concept is leading the polls.

Hyundai QarmaQ Concept

April 13th, 2007 | Category: Concept Car

Hey there, I just wanted to put some thoughts and info out there about this vehicle, enjoy.

This Crossover Coupe was debuted at the recent Geneva show. QarmaQ was a joint venture with GE Plastics. GE was able to develop 3 dimensional surfaces that could not be achieved with conventional metal and glass. My favorite thing about this design is the integration of the interior and exterior design. It is one of a few vehicle designs to really address the issue.

Hyundai has shown versions of this front clip design on many concept cars….I think it is time to implement it onto their production vehicles and establish a design language. They have had long enough to search one out. Overall it is a very muscular looking vehicle with soft
surfaces; not hard edged, intimidating, in your face design like we have been seeing lately.

We don’t mean to mislead….

A fellow blogger (I’m sorry journalist) is unhappy about the way auto blogs are spreading more rumors than actual news. Well, we here at the cdF don’t want to be such a blogger. The Fetish crew is going on record to state that 90% of our stories revolve around our opinions and in no way should be used as reliable intel to spread to major publications. Now I feel better.

Here is a quote from the blog……article

“But the media, including car magazines, are being led around by small-time bloggers who have never signed up for a journalism class, let alone stayed awake during one. And they’re running every stupid little rumor extant without checking up on them. Before New York, trained journalists were chasing bloggers’ stories that the Corvette Blue Devil and BMW X6 would appear at that show, as ridiculous as that sounds to anyone who’s covered at least a couple New York shows. It’s not a big enough event, it’s not the right event, for those two cars.”

He got me, I went to an art school, so I didn’t have to even try to stay awake through a journalism class. Thank goodness because I wouldn’t have made it. We may not be the best writers but we do have a Fetish for design. So don’t take us too seriously and enjoy our honest comments of what we think.

Bad Ass Caliber

April 12th, 2007 | Category: Production Car

caliber, thanks to Jalopnik

A Euro company Startech modified this Caliber CRD with some engine upgrades, body kit and minor interior trim pieces. Sadly the interior still looks as bad as ever so I spared you a pic. None the less, this car is sweet, now where is our SRT version for the states?

BMWow, remember the “Art Car”

April 11th, 2007 | Category: Concept Car, Production Car, Racing

There is a website that I frequent, Seriouswheels.com They had a great spread recently of many of the old BMW Art Cars. BMW has a great history of supporting the arts and individual artists. So next time you art school brats snicker at BMW remember, they have been supporting many great projects for years. I would like to see this old tradition carried through to today, some of these cars are very compelling.

The one below is just such a car. 1977 BMW 320i Group 5 Race version Art Car by Roy Lichtenstein, Bella!!!
