Daddy’s got a brand new Buick……..
So, first let me explain my Dad. Laid back, drives slow and steady, loves poker, could care less about being cool. He does what he likes because it suites him.
So I get a call at 11:00 AM from my Mom asking me if the Buick Lucerne is a good car. I say sure, then at 4:30 PM, I arive at my grandparents house to find a new Buick Lucerne in the driveway. Chrome clad wheel covers and all. Cloth seats, hells yeah, daddy don’t do no mole hair. HID lights hells no, daddy don’t do no HIDz.
So the moral to the story. My dad loves Buicks. Why? They are reliable, not to flashy, and offer just enough creature comforts. My dad is the Buick customer, and as much shit as I talk about GM, my own daddy dearest buys GM.

No commentsFor your CUBE Buddies
I don’t know about you but I love the guys from “The Office.” Maybe it is because it is based in my home town or the fact that office life is very similar to the show (and it gives me ideas on pranks). In light of the upcoming Valentine’s Day here is a little something to let your colleagues know you are thinking about them (in a non lovey dovey kinda way).
Where else can you get them but the great store Target.

OK kids here is an example why you go to a good respected design school.
This was in the basement of NAIAS, and I have some reservations making fun of student work ( OK I dont ) but this thing is so wrong on so many levels. Lets look at craft… Oh sweet rims off of a mid 80’s Honda scooter. Then there is the name Rhombus??? Sure. It hurts to look at this thing.
Now before I get flamed. I am all for new innovative designs. I am for creativity, expression, etc. I love sexy surfaces, functionality, and so on and so forth . This car lacks form development, craftsmanship, interest, proportion. dignity. How does shit like this get produced. I am sure these students felt like “gosh I really made it, my car sent to America.” Great for you, now kill your teacher for wasting your time and go to a respected design school so you can get a job.
Rombass out………

No commentsAll Those Vents
So one thing that we realized at this years Detroit auto show was all the poser vents that the OEM’s put on the sides of the cars. From Land Rover’s to Ford’s, everyone had their interpretation showing. Some were real and some were a piece of solid plastic stuck on with tape. I want to thank Autoweek for bringing this to light and making a game out of it. Check it out and see how you do.

What gets your creativity flowing?
We all have our own ways of getting our design juices going, from sketching, brainstorming, watching tv, listening to music, or being under the influence of some chemicals.
CarDesignFetish is wondering what some of YOUR methods are.

Guess make shit cars for years like the Ford has, and it all catches up with you.
Ford reports biggest loss in company history
Ford today reported a 2006 full-year net loss of $12.7 billion, or $6.79 per share — the company’s worst year in over 100 years of operation. Excluding special items, Ford’s 2006 full-year after-tax loss from continuing operations totaled $2.8 billion, or $1.50 per share. This compares to year-ago earnings from continuing operations of $1.9 billion, or $1.00 per share, excluding special items. “Special items” include nearly $10 billion in restructuring efforts and fixed asset impairments.

A Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name
Ahh, the Lincoln MKR. My pick for the hottest concept at the NAIAS.
Wait, what? A LINCOLN?! WTF?
Yes, after seeing all the vehicles at the show this was probably the one that caught my eye the least.
No commentsNew C Klass
Klass is in session Kids. That old German Mark called Mercedes Benz, has been going through some slow design improvements. I am happy to say the New C Class is a very well executed.
The main design elements that define the exterior style of the new C-Class are the striking front end with its wide, steeply angled radiator grille; the side aspect, with an interplay between surfaces; and lines and the short rear end with its athletic lines.
The sporty aspect of the new C-Class is enhanced by the body proportions, with 55 millimetres more length than the preceding model, as well as the wider track, large wheel arches and prominent wings, which intentionally appear more tailored to the body contours and therefore arch over the wheels like the toned muscles of a high-performance athlete.
“In 2005 Mercedes-Benz introduced a new design idiom with a focus on clarity of expression: the designers were guided by the principles of purism, which were interpreted in keeping with the times.”
No commentsUtilizing information routinely gathered from cell phones, new service offers real-time, traffic-congestion updates
WTF? Great service. My only question is how long before the government implants chips into our arms to monitor us 24/7 Guess they will not have to at this rate, we are doing it ourselves.
Ron Herman – an engineer, computer scientist and self-proclaimed “traffic geek” from Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. – has developed a system that can provide real-time traffic information using data that already is being collected from cell phones. Multiple mobile-phone relay towers determine a phone’s location twice per second when it is in use, and once every 30 seconds when it is not being used.
